Starting your own business can be a daunting task.

There are a million things to think about and a million more things to do. But, it is also one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. When you see your business succeed, it will be all worth it.

I wanted to write an introspective post on why being my own boss is the thing I’ve been most thankful about for the past 12 years. I know how incredibly blessed the life I lead is, and it’s really important to acknowledge that from time to time.

The best aspect of owning your own business is the fact that you are your own boss. You get to make your own hours, set your own goals, and determine your own success. Of course, this also means that you are solely responsible for your own failures. But, as they say, with great power comes great responsibility.

I think the best part about owning my own business is the level of control I have over my work-life balance. When I was working a 9-5 job, I always felt like I was sacrificing time with my family and friends in order to make someone else’s dream come true. But, now that I’m my own boss, I can make time for the things that matter most to me without having to ask for permission.

It goes beyond that, though. When you’re your own boss, you’re also in control of your own destiny. You get to decide what kind of business you want to run, what kind of products or services you want to offer, and how you want to run your operation. Every single aspect of how you want your business to operate, you control. And that, is an incredibly empowering feeling.

One of the most fun things I have done as my own boss is set up a home office the exact way I dreamed a home office should be. My cat gets to lounge on my desk while I work, I have a mini fridge stocked with my favorite drinks (sodas and adult beverages, wink wink), and I can – and do – take calls in my pajamas.

It’s the little things, right? The best thing, though, is that I get to see my kids every morning when they wake up. I can take them to school and send them off with a warm hug and kiss, and I am the first face they see when they get off the bus every afternoon. I would miss out on so many of the little things that make being a parent so special. That’s why I am so thankful. Being a business owner has made me financially secure, which is a big bonus. With that financial security has come so many great blessings I am not sure I would have ever gotten otherwise – blessings that radiate outward like circles in a pond.

That’s why I want to help others create their dream business. Everyone who wishes to start this journey deserves to experience how wonderful being in control of your own destiny is. It affects more than just you and your clients. It affects every corner of your life in ways more wonderful that you could ever imagine.

I am so thankful for you reading this. I would love it if you emailed me and just told me you read it.

Happy Thanksgiving.
