May is definitely one of the busiest months in the wedding industry.
With the weather being in transition (not too hot, not too cold), people are itching to get outside and see the leaves coming on the trees and the flowers in full bloom. This truly is a great time to get married!
For your couples who are toying with the idea of a spring vs. a summer wedding, here are a few things to consider:
- The weather: as we mentioned, the weather in May is ideal. Not too hot, not too cold. Perfect for an outdoor ceremony.
- The flowers: May is peak season for many flowers, which a lot of couples will want plenty of for pictures. Keep this in mind when scoping out venues. What flowers will they have, and when? (Also keep in mind butterflies!)
- The availability: If you use large wedding venues to host elopements, their availability will be almost nil starting in May. Make sure you have awesome backup spots – with rain options – when you start planning your May calendar. Start booking your vendors ASAP to ensure you get your first choice.
Let’s look at our numbers!
- This month, we booked 39 weddings.
- The amount of sales we made this month was $36,401.04
- The biggest cost for us each month is permit fees. We paid a total of $2,802.88 in permit costs.
- Our other two main expenses are to the florist and baker: $875.
- That brings our total expenses to $3,677.88 (not taking into account fuel costs, on-the-road food, taxes, and other incidentals).
- Total profit in May comes to $32,723.16.
Between late March and the end of May is our “Spring Rush,” where we make the bulk of our income for the first half of the year.
By the time late June rolls around, you’ll be looking forward to a trip to the beach with your phone on Airplane Mode for much of the day.
