I’ll start this off by saying I love what I do. I adore what I do. I never thought I’d be doing this, but once I started, I fell completely in love with it.
That being said, the September and October wedding season drains me on every level you can imagine – physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Once November rolls around, I am usually pleading to whatever old god will listen to make time speed up just a little bit.
It used to be November 1st was the very end of our busy wedding season. Over the years, that date has pushed back further and further to where we are packed full until the end of the second full weekend of November which is when it enters the slow slide to a more normal schedule.
In 2020, I didn’t have enough energy to plan for my favorite holiday – Thanksgiving. This year, I was back at it again but still pretty exhausted.
Yeah… I ended up destroying our turkey, which was a first.
Before I admit too much cooking sin, let’s get to the numbers:
- This month, we booked a less insane 26 weddings. That makes a grand total of 139 weddings during the official fall wedding season. In. Sane.
- The amount of sales we made this month was $28,899.21.
- The biggest cost for us each month is permit fees. We paid a total of $2,225 in permit costs.
- Our other two main expenses are to the florist and baker: $605 total in November.
- That brings our total expenses to $2,830 (not taking into account fuel costs, on-the-road food, taxes, and other incidentals).
- Total profit in September comes to $26,069.21.
When you’re running a successful business, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of it all. You’re working long hours, trying to get everything perfect, and making sure your clients are happy. It’s a lot of work, but it’s also an exciting time.
However, it’s important to remember to take care of yourself during this busy season. Entrepreneurship is a demanding lifestyle, and if you don’t take care of yourself, you won’t be able to keep up the pace.
So how do you make sure you’re taking care of yourself during this busy time? Here are a few suggestions:
1. Get enough sleep.
When you’re sleep-deprived, you’re more likely to get sick, have accidents, and make mistakes. Not to mention, you’ll be cranky and won’t be able to think straight. Make sure you’re getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night.
2. Eat healthy.
It’s tempting to just grab whatever is quick and easy when you’re busy, but that’s usually not the healthiest option. When you eat healthy foods, you have more energy and focus, and you’re less likely to get sick.
3. Exercise.
Yes, even when you’re busy, you need to make time for exercise. It doesn’t have to be a long, strenuous workout – even a short walk or a few minutes of yoga can make a difference. Exercise helps to relieve stress and improve your energy levels.
4. Take breaks.
When you’re working on something, it’s easy to get so focused that you don’t take breaks. But it’s important to step away from your work every once in awhile, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Take a quick walk, call a friend, or read a few pages of a book.
5. Set boundaries.
When you’re self-employed, it’s easy to work all the time. But it’s important to set boundaries between work and your personal life. Make sure you take some time for yourself every day, even if it’s just a few minutes. And don’t work when you’re “off”. Give yourself permission to step away.
Taking care of yourself is important, no matter what stage of life you’re in. But it’s especially important when you’re operating a business. Remember to make time for yourself, so you can stay healthy and happy during your busy season.
