How our October went – the busiest month of our year

This is it!  The Super Bowl, Black Friday, Christmas, and another other major shopping holiday all wrapped into one massive 31-day wedding event we call October.

October is the busiest month of year for wedding planners. With the fall colors come epic wedding pictures couples will treasure for a lifetime.

As an elopement planner, you will be stacking multiple weddings into every nook and cranny in your calendar. When not hosting your weddings, you will be running work-related errands, talking with potential and upcoming clients, coordinating with vendors, and making sure that everything comes together perfectly for each of your couples. It can be a stressful time, but it is also very exciting.

For most businesses, October is a slow month. But for elopement planners, it is the busiest and most important time of year. This is when we make the majority of our income. And while it can be stressful at times, it is also a lot of fun. We get to help couples plan the biggest day of their lives and see everything come together perfectly on their big day.

So how did we do in October?

Here is our October, by the numbers:

  • This month, we booked a daunting 76 weddings. While this didn’t beat our 2020 COVID record of 93 weddings, we did go over our normal-October average of 60 weddings by nearly 27%.
  • The amount of sales we made this month was $76,573.49.
  • Permit costs and fees came out to just under $6,200 in permit costs.
  • Florist and bakery costs came to $2,960 total.
  • That brings our total expenses to $9,160 (not taking into account fuel costs, on-the-road food, taxes, and other incidentals).
  • Total profit in October comes to $67,413.

Hard work = great payoff

Planning and perfectly executing 76 weddings in a single month is a lot of work.

I won’t lie, it’s flat-out exhausting.

It’s also very rewarding. Every wedding feels like such an honor to me because each and every couple trusted me with the biggest day of their lives. I am also working day and night on a business I love and for a cause I am passionate about.

Plus, let’s be honest here, the money is great. In one month, I make more money than most people do in an entire year working their traditional job. (And that’s not even including tips! Yes… we often get tips, too!)

October is your month to shine in this business.  It’s what will get you through the slower winter months – months you’ll need to recuperate.

Just be prepared for a lot of hard work – but it will be worth it in the end.
